The United States President, Donald Trump may have made peace with Pope Francis after an outburst between the duo, weeks preceding the US presidential elections.

Donald Trump earlier today held a 30-minute meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican as part of events to mark his ongoing maiden foreign trip since assuming office as the President of the United States. Both men met, shook hands before holding a brief private meeting in the Apostolic Palace. In his remark President Trump described his meeting the Pope as “...a very great honour".

After the meeting at the Apostolic Palace, there was another enlarged session with members of the US delegation. Those present included the First Lady, Melania Trump, Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, National Security Advisor, H. R McMaster, Trump's daughter, Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner.

The meeting ended with exchange of souvenirs. Trump who gave some books to the Pope, said "this is a gift for you. These are books from Martin Luther King. I think you will enjoy them".

The Pope in return gave President Trump a gift he described as a medal by a Roman Artist. He said it was an olive which is a symbol of peace. "I signed it personally for you". Trump responded "...that is so beautiful. We can use peace". The Pope also gave the President three books on Family, The Joy of the Gospel and Care of Our Common Home - The Environment. Trump assured that he would be reading the books.

The two leaders engaged in war of words during the electioneering campaign when Trump had indicated readiness to build a wall along the US-Mexico border after being elected president.

The Pope reacted by saying that 'anyone who thinks of building walls instead of bridges "is not a Christian". Angered by the statement, Trump described the comment as "disgraceful". The verbal war triggered massive reactions from followers of both leaders.

However, with the visit, the cold war may have been swept under the carpet, after all, God forgives all sins.
