The British Royal Family has announced that it has stripped Prince Andrew, The Duke of York, of his military affiliations and royal patronages, as he faces trial over sexual abuse allegations. In a statement, the royal family said "With the Queen’s approval and agreement, The Duke of York’s military affiliations and royal patronages have been returned to the queen." The royal family noted that the prince will be defending his case in court as a private citizen.

"The Duke of York will continue not to undertake any public duties and is defending this case as a private citizen."

The move by Buckingham Palace comes a day after a U.S judge ruled that a civil lawsuit filed against the prince by Virginia Giuffre, who alleged that Andrew raped her three times when she was a teenager, can move to trial.

The prince has denied Giuffre's accusations that he forced her to have sex with him at Ghislaine Maxwell's London home and abused her at two Epstein properties.

It can be recalled that in 2019, Andrew was forced to step back from public duties and his role as a senior member of the royal family following his connection and friendship with late disgraced Jeffrey Epstein.
