British Finance Minister, Sajid Javid has resigned on Thursday, saying he could not accept the demands of Prime Minister Boris Johnson. He said, " The conditions were attached that I replace all my political advisers." "I don’t believe any self-respecting minister would accept such conditions. I therefore felt the best thing was to go," Javid added.
Johnson has replaced Javid with his deputy, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Rishi Sunak, a loyalist of the prime minister.
Johnson's long-planned cabinet revamp hit even the lower ranks of government officials. Those affected include the former Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay has now become the Chief Secretary to the Treasury. The Paymaster General, Oliver Dowden is the new Culture Secretary, replacing Baroness Morgan.
Also, Julian Smith has been replaced by Home Office Minister Brandon Lewis as Northern Ireland Secretary. Environment Secretary, Theresa Villiers is has been replaced by George Eustice, who resigned as a minister last year over Theresa May's Brexit plans.
Former Brexit Minister, Suella Braverman has replaced Geoffrey Cx as Attorney General.
International Development Secretary, Alok Sharma has been appointed Business Secretary and Minister for the upcoming Climate Conference COP26, in Glasgow. While, Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the Armed Forces minister would be the new International Development Secretary.
Cabinet members who retained their positions include Defence Secretary Ben Wallace, Health Secretary Matt Hancock, Home Secretary Priti Patel, Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove, Leader of the House Jacob Rees-Mogg, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, International Trade Secretary Liz Truss, and Transport Secretary Grant Shapps.
