Yelena Saltykova of the Russian State Institute of Biochemistry and Genetics decried the recent mass death of bee colonies in the country believed to be occasioned by the use of uncontrolled pesticide.
“The problem is that we do not produce our own pesticides. There are no strict controls here,” the official said.
The Russian government has noted that until the end of July more than 39,600 bee colonies, an estimated 1.5 per cent of all those in the country, have died.
Saltykova believes the devastation could be much greater. (NAN)
