British Prime Minister, Theresa May has announced that she would step down as the leader of the Conservative Party on June 7th. This is following her failure to convince Members of Parliament (MPs) to back her Brexit referendum. May made the announcement in her nation's address today outside 10 Downing Street in London and later unveiled her departure timetable.

She said during her term as PM, she did her best against all odds to see the Brexit withdrawal deal go through.

"I negotiated the terms of our exit and a new relationship with our closest neighbours that protects jobs, our security and our Union. I have done everything I can to convince MPs to back that deal. Sadly, I have not been able to do so. I tried three times.

"I believe it was right to persevere, even when the odds against success seemed high. But it is now clear to me that it is in the best interests of the country for a new Prime Minister to lead that effort," May said emotionally.

Amidst all the development, the PM would host America's President Donald Trump during his visit in June while, the party will move begin leadership contest by June 10 in a bid to elect a new leader by end of July.
