The President, Muhammadu Buhari, has condemned the senseless attack on two villages in western Niger, Tchoma Bangou and Zaroumadareye on Saturday, which is blamed on terrorists. The president described the mayhem as a clarion call for united action by African leaders against terrorism. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement titled, ‘President Buhari sympathizes with Niger Republic over terrorist attack that killed 70 people, calls for united action against terrorism.’

The President reportedly said, “We are facing grave security challenges on account of the evil campaign of indiscriminate violence by terrorists in the Sahel and only united action can help us defeat these vicious enemies of humanity.”

The attack on Tchoma Bangou and Zaroumadareye which claimed the lives of dozens of innocent persons was perpetrated by suspected terrorists who stormed the communities riding about a hundred motorcycles,

It was disclosed by a source that the attackers, who came in large numbers, carried out the massacre in retaliation after two members of their group were killed by villagers while committing an attack earlier in the day.

The unstable Tillaberi region, in recent years, has suffered waves of terrorist attacks.
