Gunmen have killed about 30 people on Sunday, May 31, at a livestock market in the eastern part of Kompienbiga town, in Burkina Faso. Security sources blamed the attack on armed groups with links to Al Qaeda and Daesh insurgent groups.
According to the report, the gunmen who rode on motorbikes fired into the crowded market in kompienga. The assailants "burst into the market riding motorbikes and started shooting, especially at people who were trying to flee", one resident said, estimating the death toll at around 30 from the attack.
A second resident said: "It's hard to say how many people were killed. There were bodies in the market and others in the bush." The violence has forced hundreds of thousands to flee their homes.
Despite occasional government claims of success against the Islamic militants, the insecurity in the north and east of Burkina Faso has dramatically escalated.
