Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo lifted a 21- day partial lockdown today, 20th April 2020, as Ghana became the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to ease movement restriction.
The 3-week lockdown of its biggest cities gave the government ample time to improve its preparedness for the novel coronavirus pandemic as disclosed by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
Work is allowed to reopen today Monday in major cities, even if restrictions such as school closures and a ban on sport and religious meeting are yet to be lifted.
Ghana lockdown achieved more than 68,000 tests and planned to establish more testing centres in all of its 16 regions. Local factories in Ghana started the production of protective equipment while drones are used to speed up the transportation of test.
