About 22 villagers including 14 children were massacred in the Anglophone region of Cameroun Republic, the United Nation said, as the opposition party put the blame on the military.

The crises were the fallout of an election that took place on February 9th that was marred by violence in the region where the separatist threatened voters that lead to the clash between them and the security forces.

According to James Nunan, a UN Humanitarian coordinator Agency, OCHA, In Ntumbo village located in the Northwest region, the armed men carried out the killing on Friday living scores dead.

He disclosed about 22 unarmed civilians were killed, including pregnant mother out of which 14 were children, with nine under the age of five, Nunan added.

Another eye witness who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal revealed to Al Jazeera that he helped a family bury 21 bodies in “four graves in four different compounds” with help of a colleague.

The source further revealed about Nine other housed were raised down by the armed forces with many villagers fleeing, scampering for safety.

The separatist group who are Anglophone in the region has been agitating to the government in the last three years hinging their struggle on marginalisation by the French-dominated government that has been in power for nearly forty years.

In one of the confession from the opposition party, Movement for the Rebirth of Cameroun (MRC) revealed, "The dictatorial regime [and] the supreme head of the security and defence forces are chiefly responsible for these crimes."

Lawyer Agbor Mballa, a key figure in the separatist movement on his Facebook post accused “state defence forces” for the massacre.

However, an army officer denied the allegation by slamming it as “false” but there were no other means of verifying the information.

Felix Agbor Balla, director for Centre for Human Right and democracy in Africa demanded that those behind the crime must be brought to justice as the era of impunity must stop.

Its been three years now the crises between the English speaking Cameroonians who are demanding for Ambazonia state and the government forces have continued to brew feud in the region.

The conflict has forced over half a million people to flee the region and claiming over 30,000 lives of innocent civilians.

The MRC party had refused to field a candidate after its leader, Maurice Kamto was incarcerated for nine months following his defeat in 2018 presidential election whom since has fled the country and called for a boycott in this year’s election.
