South Sudan Speaker Resigns Over Allegation Of Mismanagement

Anthony Lino Makana, the South Sudan parliamentary speaker was reported to have resigned from his position following threat by lawmakers to impeach him over allegation of mismanagement and impeding effort to fight corruption in the country.

The speaker was accused of bypassing the parliamentary in approving a loan of about $400 million from Afrexim Bank, failing to present auditor general and anti-corruption reports to the parliament among others.

While tendering his resignation Makana was reported to have said “The reason for tendering my resignation is an act of deep and sincere respect to your leadership (of the ruling SPLM party) for you requested me to do so.”
