A notable opposition leader in Tanzania, Tundu Lissu has been charged with using abusive verbal language against the President, Magufuli after he called him a dictator and asccused him of engaging in favoritism and nepotism. Lissu who is one of the leaders of Chadema Party was arrested on Thursday last week and has remained in Police custody. His arrest came after a video of him allegedly describing the president as a dictator emerged.
He had appeared in court on Monday and would appear again on Thursday to press for bail. The prosecution team had called on the judge to deny him bail since he has continually made seditious remarks.
Meanwhile his team of lawyers has called for his immediate and unconditional release. They claimed that the charges preferred against him were all unproven.
