President Muhammadu Buhari has frowned at the attempted coup against a democratically elected government of Ghana. In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, Buhari said he condemned the military action in totality.
The President described the incident as a case of corruption fighting back.
According to the President Buhari, Nigeria and Ghana are the leading figures in the ECOWAS, Transparency International, and Afrobarometer’s African Index 2019 attested both countries have recorded extraordinary progress in fighting corruption.
He said when you descend on corrupt cabal or vested interests successfully, in most cases they tend to fight back with much force quoting the adage that ‘if you fight corruption, corruption will fight back’.
Buhari revealed the only acceptable form of government in the 21st century of our climes is a democratically elected government who has the mandate of the countrymen population through the action of ballot and not otherwise, saying the days of taking governance through the barrel of the gun is obsolete.
The president said Nigeria and other African countries hold Ghana in high esteem as the first post-colonial country to gain independence and also a country to hold multi-party election through universal suffrage.
”Ghana is the first, true African democracy, Buhari added.
He said Nigeria will always support Ghana in friendship and brotherhood.
