Algeria Lawmakers Elect Bensalah As Interim President

Algerian Speaker of the Upper House of Parliament, Abdelkader Bensalah has been elect as interim President by the members of parliament, making him the first Algerian president in two decades.

According to The Guardian, Bensalah said he is will work in the interest of the people, as the constitution demands him .

However, members of the opposition parties refused Bensalah and boycotted the parliamentary session.

Also, protesters seeking change of leadership expressed dismay towards the new president, as they demand veteran politicians to standown and make way for younger ones to take up leadership positions.

They carried placards and Algerian flags chanting, “They haven’t heard us, we will continue to march!”
