INEC, EiE, Others To Screen The Political Film ‘4th Republic’

The widely anticipating movie had starred Nollywood’s Kate Henshaw shows her character (Mabel King) as she races to become Nigeria’s first female Governor but is caught up around a heavily marred election.

Also, the film directed by Ishaya Bako also shows the dynamism in Nigerian politics, highlighting the flaws including the low level of female inclusion and the need to improve the political echelon as well as the judiciary.

The film was produced by Griot studios Ltd and Amateur Heads Productions with notable Nollywood actors in the movie including Bimbo Manuel, Linda Ejiofor, Eyinna Nwigwe, Kannywood’s Yakubu Mohammed and Sani Mu’azu.

Speaking on the movie at a screening in Bayelsa State on Tuesday, the Director thanked the MacArthur Foundation and OSIWA to a progressive indigenous IT firm, Softcom and their visionary CEO Yomi Adedeji and government agencies as well as civil society actors for funding the film and supporting the message.

He added that the movie was made in a bid to enlighten the public and generate conversations on the Nigerian political and electoral process, particularly with the upcoming elections in the state (Bayelsa) and also in Kogi State.

Also speaking, Director of Voter Education, INEC, Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi disclosed that voter education needs to be carried out through the media. Adding that, INEC believes that voter education should be done through as many media as possible.

“This is art, and Nollywood is one of the frontiers that we think can reach millions of Nigerians,” Osaze-Uzzi said.

While commenting, the Director of Public Enlightenment and Mass Mobilisation, NOA, Mrs. Ruth Ogun explained that the film will aid in educating the public against election violence.

He opined that “The movie describes to us, vividly the issues that arises during elections.

With this film, it is shown that there is no gain going the violent way" Uzzi stated .
