Three Nigerians have been confirmed to make the newly released list of the diverse 842 members of the Academy of Motion Picture, Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).

The Academy which is also known as the Oscars is the honorary body aimed at advancing the arts and sciences of motion pictures, as well as responsible for the annual Academy Awards ceremony centered around celebrating exceptional films.

The Nigerians include quintessential director Tunde Kelani, Actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and exceptional writer, Chinonye Chukwu.

Kelani is known for his exemplary work in 'Dazzling Mirage', 'Agogo Eewo', and 'Saworoide'. Agbaje stood out in his role in 'The Bourne Identity', 'Thor: The Dark World' and 'Game of Thrones', while Chukwu is the first black woman to win the Sundance Film Festival's biggest prize for the movie 'Clemency'.

This year's Academy list tops the 2018 member list as it has better inclusion based on racial and gender consideration.

Though the percentage of people of colour was the same as 2018 with 16 percent, the percentage of women increased to 32 percent from 31 percent of 2018.
