American media streaming service provider, Netflix has acquired ‘Mokalik’, an all Yoruba movie produced by Popular Nigerian Director and Producer, Kunle Afolayan.
Mr. Afolayan made the disclosure on Wednesday at the French-Nigerian Cinema Days at the Alliance Francaise in Ikoyi, Lagos, saying Netflix also acquired some of his other films.
The acquisition is in line with the company’s interest in Original African motion pictures.
In 2018, Netflix acquired ‘Lionheart’ from Veteran Nigerian actress, Genevieve Nnaji and later picked it as a Netflix Original movie before its release on January 4, 2019.
‘Mokalik’, tells a story of an 11-year old Jaiye, from a middle-class family, who decides to follow his passion as an apprentice in a Mechanic Workshop.
He however gets struck with a dilemma as he has to make a tough choice between school and full-time apprenticeship.
The movie features Nigerian Singer Simi, ex-BBN housemate, Tobi Bakare, actors including Faithia Williams, Lateef Oladimeji, Femi Adebayo, and Ayo Adesanya.
Meanwhile, the Netflix release date is yet to be announced.
