Nigeria’s critically acclaimed singer, Brymo has released his sixth album, "OṢÓ." The project contains 11 tracks, with interesting titles such as “Money launderers and heartbreakers,” “Time is so kind,” and “God is in your mind.” While Brymo might not be the most likeable Nigerian artists out there, he is easily one of the most talented.
Over the years, he's dropped a bunch of great projects that never really quite got the attention they deserved, but we hope that can all change with his ambitious new LP, Oṣó.
Oṣó, the sixth album in Brymo's masterful but criminally underrated discography, was released yesterday along with the project's lead single, "Heya!".
The album, which is the first part of a three-part project, will be followed by a concert and a book.
"Heya!" successfully accomplishes what any good lead single should: it tells us what we should expect from the full body of work.
The beautifully haunting track is filled with Brymo's musings about life, love and the passage of time.
Oṣó has been dubbed an "atmospheric, introspective set that’s built on masterful songwriting, philosophy and rhythm", and that's absolutely right. The album, like most of what Brymo has released in the past, is soulful, innovative, topical and brilliantly executed.
On the 11-track project, which seamlessly transitions from political to spiritual, Brymo reminds us that he's one of the rare Nigerian artists who actually understands how important cohesive storytelling is to an album — listening to Oṣó honestly feels like we are taking a peek at his diary.
