CNN president Jeff Zucker has on Wednesday announced his resignation from the cable news network over an undisclosed romantic relationship with a top executive at the company. Zucker's resignation comes less than two months after he fired news anchor, Chris Cuomo for improperly advising his brother, then New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo on how to address sexual misconduct allegations.

In a memo, Zucker told employees that his resignation is with immediate effect, saying "As part of the investigation into Chris Cuomo's tenure at CNN, I was asked about a consensual relationship with my closest colleague, someone I have worked with for more than 20 years,"

"I acknowledged the relationship evolved in recent years. I was required to disclose it when it began but I didn't. I was wrong. As a result, I am resigning today."

Zucker was in a relationship with the company's chief marketing officer, Allison Gollust.

Gollust has also released a statement, acknowledging the relationship with Zucker, saying “Jeff and I have been close friends and professional partners for over 20 years,"

“Recently, our relationship changed during COVID. I regret that we didn’t disclose it at the right time.”

Gollust will remain the chief marketing officer of CNN Worldwide, while, Jason Kilar, the chief executive of WarnerMedia, which owns CNN has been announced as the interim co-heads of CNN alongside three members of the CNN leadership team, Micheal Bass, Amy Entelis, and Ken Jautz.
