An Illinois court in the United States has dismissed the million-dollar wire fraud conspiracy case against Olalekan Ponle, popularly known as 'Woodberry'. Woodberry, 29, was arrested alongside, Raymond 'Hushpuppi' Abbas in the United Arab Emirate (UAE) on multiple fraud charges by the Dubai crime unit police officers, subsequently extraditing the duo to the US. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Woodberry was caught through his WhatsApp, iPhone, and Bitcoin transactions.
He was extradited to Chicago, where a company claimed that it was tricked into sending wire transfers of $15.2 million. Also, other companies accused the Nigerian of the same crime with the jury summing up the allegations to an eight-count charge, violating section 1343 of the United States Codes.
However, the US government on Monday filed a motion through John R. Lausch, the district's attorney to dismiss Woodberry's case without prejudice.
"Counsel for the government has spoken with counsel for the defendant and defendant’s counsel has no objection to this motion. Respectfully submitted," Lausch said.
