Hollywood icon, Thomas Jeffrey Hanks, popularly known as 'Tom Hanks' is set to be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement award at the Golden Globes in Beverly Hills, California on January 5, 2020, according to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).
The prestigious Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award is presented anually to a prolific actor, director or producer.
Hanks, 63, is an American actor and filmmaker who hit the film screens with “Big” in 1988, where he starred as a teenager who wakes up to find himself in the body of an adult.
He continued to produce and star in iconic films and also received recognitions for his work including his Oscars in 1994 and Golden Globes in 1995 for his roles in “Philadelphia” and “Forrest Gump.”
HFPA president Lorenzo Soria said Hanks has undoubtedly entertained audiences for over three decades.
“For more than three decades, he’s captivated audiences with rich and playful characters that we’ve grown to love and admire,”
“As compelling as he is on the silver screen, he’s equally so behind the camera as a writer, producer, and director,” Soria said.
Hanks has starred in over 80 movies including 'Cast Away', 'Saving Private Ryan', 'The Green Mile', ' Toy Story', ' Sleepless in Seattle', 'Sully: Miracle on the Hudson', among others.
Other recepients of the Cecil B. DeMille award include Steven Spielberg, Meryl Streep, Oprah Winfrey, Jeff Bridges and Harrison Ford.
Meanwhile, Hanks’ next movie appearance will be in November as he stars in ' A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood', a movie based on the real life friendship between journalist Tom Junod and Television star, Fred Rogers.
