Nigeria’s Deborah Ayorinde To Star in Lena Waithe’s Series

American actress, producer, and screenwriter has cast Nigerian-British actress Deborah Ayorinde as the lead role in her upcoming horror series ‘Them’.

Ayorinde is known for her roles in ‘Girls Trip’ movie and series ‘Luke Cage’ as well as also starred in the third season of ‘True Detective’ and soon to be in cinema movie ‘Harriet’.

In ‘Them’, Ayorinde plays Lucy Emory who is married to Alfred Emory, played by Ashley Thomas moves their family to an all-white neighbourhood in Los Angeles, where their new home on a tree-lined becomes a ground for real and supernatural threats to haunt and try to destroy them.

Speaking, Waithe said the first season would give an insight into how terrifying it was to be black in 1953 and also remind viewers that same fear taunts blacks in 2018.

“This anthology series will examine the cultural divides among all of us and explore us vs Them in a way we’ve never seen before,” she said.
