The final season of HBO’s epic Game of Thrones on Tuesday broke the record for the most Primetime Emmy nominations by a drama series with 32 nominations.
The American fantasy drama series which maddened fans yet crushed the competition with Amazon’s ‘The Marvelous Mrs Maisel’ in second place with 20 nominations followed by HBO’s ‘Cherbonyl’ placed third with 19 nominations, and ‘Saturday Night Live’ with 18 nominations.
The Emmy Award is an annual American award that recognizes and celebrates excellence in the television industry and is also equivalent to the Academy Award (for the film), the Tony Award (for theatre), and the Grammy Award (for music).
According to the Television Academy website, Game of Thrones has been the most decorated fictional show throughout its 8 seasons with a total of 161 nominations.
However, final round voting will begin soon, choosing winners for the revealed on 22nd September in Los Angeles, California.
