Oprah Winfrey Loses Mom At 83

Media Mogul Oprah Winfrey’s mother, Vernita Lee passed away at the age of 83, last Thursday at her Milwaukee home in Wisconsin, USA.

Oprah’s niece, Alisha Hayes announced the death of her Grandmother on Facebook
. She wrote, “My grandmother, Rest In Peace,” sharing a picture of the duo together.

Also, Winfrey released a statement on her mother’s death, saying, “Thank you all for your kind words and condolences regarding my mother Vernita Lee’s passing. It gives our family great comfort knowing she lived a good life and is now at Peace.” 

Vernita Lee was born on 2nd May 1935 in Mississippi. Lee who was a teenager met Vermont Winfrey and gave birth to Oprah in 1954.

Unable to raise Oprah, Vernita kept Oprah in her mother’s care and moved to Milwaukee where she worked as a housemaid.
 When Winfrey was 6 years old, she later moved to Milwaukee to be with her mom.

Lee is also survived by another daughter, Patricia Amanda, and four grandchildren. Meanwhile, private funeral services for Lee were held.
