Officials of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) on Wednesday dispensed over 14, 400 litres of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol free of charge to motorists at a filling station along Gwagwa- Deidei axis, Abuja over alleged illegal operation. The Abuja Zonal Controller of DPR, Abba Misau who led the operation told newsmen on ground that the station was selling above the stipulated pump price and was not licensed to operate by the DPR.
Misau said the resurgence of fuel queue in the Federal Capital Territory and other areas was because of instability in the supply of the product to Abuja and environs. He however assured that relevant authorities have waded into the matter.
“But we have been given assurance by the PPMC that the product supply will be stable,” he said. Meanwhile, arrested operators of the station have been handed over to operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for prosecution.
The owner of the station, Danladi Eya has since denied any wrongdoing. He claimed that since he bought the product from a licensed dealer, his license covered his operation.
