Minister Of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva has disclosed that there was no increment in fuel pump price for now by the government until it concludes consultation with Organised labour.
The Minister stated this today while addressing journalist in Lagos when asked about the alleged hike of a fuel pump price to N212.61 per litre.
Sylva said, ”Irrespective of the source of that information, I want to assure you that it is completely untrue.
He explained that “Neither Mr President who is Minister of Petroleum Resources nor I who deputise for him as minister of state has approved that petrol price should be increased by one naira.
The Minister, therefore, described the information as fake and misleading.
He said the government has been in consultation with the organised labour to find a soft landing that will be accepted by both parties as the global crude price has been steadily on the rise which has affected the price of its end product.
The Minister disclosed that it would be unthinkable for the government to unilaterally increase the fuel price like what some section of the media has reported.
He revealed that cynicism and backstabbing have never been the way of the Buhari administration.
He further reiterated that “I will like to equally assure you that the engagement with the organised labour and other stakeholders will continue even as the calculations to arrive at a reasonable price regime are being done; all in good faith and you will be availed of the final outcome at the appropriate time.
“Until then, all marketers are strongly advised to maintain the current pump price of PMS before the emergence of this unfortunate information.
He advised those with evil intent to cash on the situation to extort Nigerians should have a rethink.
The Minister on behalf of the federal government apologised to all Nigerians for this fake news and distress that might have caused them.
