The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has allayed fears of possible petrol scarcity brought to bear by ongoing disagreement between the Federal Government and oil workers under the auspices of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN), over the implementation of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). Dr. Kennie Obateru, NNPC spokesman, in a statement, on Tuesday, in Abuja assured that the industrial action would not lead to non-availability of petroleum products at fuel stations and depots.

The NNPC says it has over 2.9 billion of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), to adequately supply Nigerians during the Yuletide period and beyond.

Dr. Obateru while quoting the NNPC Group Managing Director, Malam Mele Kyari, said that the industrial action embarked upon by PENGASSAN would not lead to scarcity of petroleum products, as all fuel stations and petrol depots in the country have enough stock of products to service consumers and are open for business.

He assumed that the Corporation had emplaced a stock of over 2.9 billion litres of petrol of guarantee seamless movement of people, goods and services across the country in the forthcoming Christmas season and beyond.

He expressed optimism that the industrial dispute would be settled amicably, adding that corporation was determined to make the 2020 end-of-year festivities a zero fuel period just like the preceding year.

Obateru said that critical stockholders in the petroleum products supply and distribution chain such as tanker drivers, depot owners and road transport owners had been mobilised to ensure a hitch-free season.
