Forbes Names Akinwumi Adesina African Of The Year

Former Nigerian Minister of Agriculture and president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina has been named Forbes African of the Year for his roles in poverty eradication on the continent.

 The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, has said that the unconventional monetary policies adopted by the apex bank in steering the country’s economy are yielding good results. He stated this on Friday during the 1st Convocation Lecture of the Edo University, Iyamho, entitled ‘Role of Monetary Policy:

According to a recent study, Nigerians spend over N730billion annually on sports betting and a whopping sum of two billion naira is generated on a daily basis. The data also revealed that over 60 million Nigerian punters spend over N3,000 daily placing bet stakes.

Air Peace To Begins Johannesburg, Sharjah Route in June

Poised to dominate the African airspace and also compete with International airlines, Nigerian carrier, Air Peace, says it will begin flight operations to Johannesburg, South Africa and Sharjah, United Arab Emirates next month. Making the announcement, Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, disclosed this at a meeting of the airline’s Board of Directors on Wednesday in Ikeja.

The South African Government has granted a request for Air Peace to begin commercial flights to Johannesburg, South Africa. CBN Introduces Special Intervention Fund for MFBs

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has introduced a new special intervention fund for Microfinance banks (MFB) in Nigeria, seeking to increase the share of microcredit ratio to at least 20 percent by 2020.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), has said no tariff increase has been approved by the commission yet, putting to rest agitations from some quarters that the Commission would soon approve increase in electricity tariff.
