An Abuja-Kaduna Train reportedly derailed at around 3:20 pm on Friday in the Kubwa Area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), just a few minutes away from its destination, Kubwa train station. An anonymous source at the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirmed the incident and said the cause is still unknown, adding that train services along that route have been suspended until the issue is resolved.

A passenger onboard the derailed train said it left Rigasa station in Kaduna State at about 1:30 pm on Friday but an announcement was made on the train about 2 to 3 minutes to their destination that passengers should be ready to disembark.

According to her, passengers stood up to get ready to disembark, but the train made a loud noise, came to an abrupt stop, and passengers were thrown to the ground as a result of the derailment.

This incident is less than a week after the recent derailment of the Warri-Itakpe train in Kogi state where over 150 passengers were briefly stranded.
