Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has today warned the independent marketers who are of the habit of hoarding fuel to desist or they shall not hesitate to sanction any marketer that is found wanting. The DPR Director, Mr Sarki Auwalu gave this warning in a statement today in Lagos. He said the warning has become necessary considering the fact that queues are resurfacing at retail outlets in some states of the federation.

Findings by Vigil360 revealed that petroleum black market operators were seen at strategic locations of the highway in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

Along Kubuwa expressway, for example, filling stations like AA Rano, Shema and the NNPC mega station were all having long queues with men selling petrol in transparent containers in front of these outlets. The DPR boss insisted that from his record, there is fuel sufficiency in the country and it does not call for product hoarding by any marketer.

In his statement, “The DPR will not hesitate to apply appropriate sanctions on any outlet found wanting in this regard.

“The regulatory agency has set up a special task force to intensify surveillance and monitoring of all retail outlets and depots nationwide to check the anomaly,” he warned.

Auwalu, therefore, advise the general public against panic buying, saying the product is available and it will go round. He assured the public that his office will continue to do the needful by ensuring that it does its primary responsibility of regulating quality, quantity, integrity and safety for the effective management of the downstream sector of the sector.
