Emerging information revealed that the Federal Government is currently generating over N1 million daily from the Abuja- Kaduna rail lines.  The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi who made this known in an interview with newsmen in Benin attributed the development to increase in passengers that patronize the rail line. He explained that the increase in passengers was due primarily to security challenges encountered by motorists along the Kaduna-Abuja road.

According to him, ‘’we are spending N56 million per month, we are getting back only N16 million. Now there is an improvement; we now make N30 million, (that is) one million Naira per day. The improvement started last month because of increase in passengers because of the kidnapping on the road"

He hinted that funds generated from the sector were being used to maintain the coaches as well as other problems that militate against the smooth operation of the sector. Amaechi assured that efforts were in place to address the issue of touting at the Idu rail station. He also disclosed that his ministry was expecting ten new coaches by October this year.
