APPO Appoints Nigeria’s Omar Farouk As Secretary-General

The African Petroleum Producers' Organization, APPO has appointed Nigeria's Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim as its new Secretary-General, taking over from H.E Mahaman Laouan Gaya of Niger.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva announced Dr. Ibrahim's appointment during a session of the APPO Council of Ministers on Thursday in Abuja.

 

Dr. Ibrahim, who was a Group General Manager, International Energy Relations for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) will be serving a renewable three-year term.

 

The Organization also appointed Minister for Petroleum of Republic of Niger and Minister of Energy of Popular Democratic Republic of Algeria as APPO President and Vice-President for 2020 respectively.

 

Other appointees include Mr. Waeil Al Atharam as Director, Rilwanu Lukaman Research and Development Centre and Mme Maha Fouda Attia as Director Support Services.

 

The council invited member countries that had not subscribed to capital of African Energy Investment Corporation (AEICORP) to do so.

 

It further extended the tenure of the Managing Director of AEICORP to the first General meeting of the shareholders of AEICORP.

 

Meanwhile, APPO has directed it's new Sec. General to recover its assets from ex-group II staff as well as terminate the contract of Group III staff with effect from December 31, 2019.
