The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has established a 300 megawatts renewable energy power plant in Lagos State as part of its investments in Nigeria.
This was disclosed by UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Fahad Obaid Al Taffaq, on Tuesday, 8th October 2019.
The Ambassador made the disclosure when he paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Power, Engr. Saleh Mamman in his Office, saying the power plant is ready for launch to supplement the National grid.
In a statement by spokesperson, Mrs Etore Thomas, Mamman commended UAE for the power plant, assuring that the Ministry will partner with UAE in its investments in the country.
The statement further stated that Mamman reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to collaborate with genuine investors, especially in the power sector.
Speaking, Al Taffaq disclosed that the power plant was established by Ahmed Al-Maktoum, a member of the Emirati Royal Family, noting that it has the capacity to be upgraded to a 1,000 MW power plant.
While explaining that the power plant company has concluded agreements with Shell for the supply of gas, the Ambassador requested the assistance of the Minister in securing a generation license and tariff from the Lagos State Government.
He also informed that the UAE is interested in investing in the electricity transmission and distribution network across the Country.
