President Muhammadu Buhari has today nominated Mr. Aghughu Arhotomhenla Adolphus for appointment as the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation. Accordingly, Buhari has transmitted the letter of the nomination for ratification by the national Assembly in-line with section 86(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
The Senior Special Assistant to the National Assembly on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Babajide Omowarare, disclosed yesterday that Aghughu has been acting as the Auditor-General since Mr. Anthony Mkpe Ayine put his voluntary retirement after attaining the age of 60 as stipulated by law since last year October.
Mr. Aghogho is a native of Edo state who has a master's in Economics; he is a fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, a Member Nigerian Institute of Management, and an Associate Member of Chartered Institute of Taxation. Aghogho first become Auditor at the accountant General Office in 1992 and was later promoted to the rank of Director in January 2016.
Recall President Muhammadu Buhari had in Dec. 2016 transmitted the name of Ayine to the Senate to be approved as the new Auditor General after the then Auditor-General proceeded on terminal leave.
In a similar manner, President Buhari has also nominated Barrister Victor Chinemerem Muruako to fill the office of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission in line with the provision of section 5(3) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2007.
Accordingly, Mr. Muruako, a native of Imo state is also a legal practitioner who has been a Secretary of the Commission and he is currently serving as the acting chair.
His nomination later has also been forwarded to the red chamber for onwards approval by the Senate.
