The Federal Government and Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) have on Wednesday agreed to provide Nigerians with two months free electricity in efforts to lessen economic challenges due to the Covid-19.
This was made known in a statement by Barr. Sunday Oduntan, the Executive Director, Research and Advocacy at the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED).
"We are also completely aligned with the plans to ensure palliative measures, including free electricity supply to all Nigerians for two months, to make life easier, during the lockdown period. Details of implementation to come soon," Oduntan said.
The ANED Executive also noted that the free electricity as well as partnering with the National Assembly and Federal Executive is in line with the DisCos' commitment to the country.
Speaking, the DisCos lauded the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), the legislative and Executive for their efforts in providing power to citizens, particularly during the pandemic.
Also, the electricity companies promised to improve service delivery during and after the COVID-19 period, advising customers to stay at home in order to avoid getting infected.
