The Minister of Finance Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed has reacted to the threat issued by the Academic Staff Union of the Nigerian University (ASUU) that they will embark on industrial action if the federal government failed to reverse the directive that they must migrate to Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
The Minister revealed that the IPPIS policy was a federal government policy intended to checkmate corruption in the public sector, saying she is only carrying out her duty as a minister to ensure everybody complies with Mr. Presidential Directive.
Mrs. Ahmed issued this statement shortly after the National Economic Council meeting presided over by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday at the state House Abuja; she said the policy is a must to all federal government employees.
She reiterated that President Buhari has already issued the directive that there is no exception that all federal government employees must be enrolled, therefore as the presiding Minister; it was her duty to implement the directive without fear or favour.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) have quoted the Minister saying “So, that is what I do and we are going to do that; so, it is a pity if ASUU carries out this strike because what ASUU is saying now is that they should be treated differently from other staff of the government of Nigeria who are also on IPPIS.
“We will be engaging ASUU; we will be discussing with them; but at the end of the day, as far as I am concerned, my instruction is from the President,”
