The national leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC may have directed its State leadership to begin talks with their various state governors on the implementation of the new minimum wage recently approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to Punch, while some state chapters of the NLC would begin meeting with the state governments on May 1 (May Day), others insisted that they would wait for a circular from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission before they could start the negotiation. The Union insisted that it will resist any attempt by Governors to reduce the N30, 000 newly approved minimum wage.
Some of the states that had concluded plans to engage their State Governors include Cross River, Ekiti, and Osun. Meanwhile, the leadership of the Congress in Akwa Ibom State says it has concluded plans to set up a committee on the new minimum wage.
Governor Emmanuel Udom had earlier assured workers of total implementation of the new minimum wage.
