The 650,000 barrels per day Dangote refinery is billed to produce 65.4 million litres of petrol, Kerosene, Diesel and aviation fuel when fully attain operation. Devakumar Edwin, the Group Executive Director, Strategy, Capital Projects & Portfolio Development, disclosed this during an interview.
He said the refinery is being designed to refine multiple grades of domestic and foreign crude as well as process them into high-quality gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation fuels that meet Euro V emissions’ specifications, plus polypropylene.
The large volume of petroleum products from the refinery is expected to turn around Nigeria fortune from a petrol import-dependent country to an exporter of petroleum finished products.
The company’s target is to satisfy Nigeria’s demand for petrol, aviation fuel, kerosene, and diesel, leaving the excess for export.
Mr, Edwin added, the refinery will also include a crude distillation Unit, diesel hydrotreating unit, continuous catalyst regeneration unit polypropylene unit, and alkylation unit.
He further stated “The project will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs and will spice up the Nigeria’s economic development. It will also facilitate skills transfer and technology acquisition opportunities for technically oriented individuals in the country,”
The Group Director also revealed the company is constructing the largest fertilizer plant in West Africa with the capacity to produce 3.0 Million Tonnes of Urea fertilizer per year. The Dangote fertilizer complex consists of Ammonia and Urea plants with associated facilities and infrastructure.
More so, he disclosed that the company has considered youth empowerment and capacity building programme in the host communities. He revealed the programme is geared towards adding value to the lives of the youths and their communities with the view of equipping young men with trade skills that would prepare them for better opportunities.
