The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) in collaboration with the Efficiency Unit of the Federal Ministry of Finance has introduced a 'Price Checker' portal to integrate and monitor prices of commodities to ensure transparency in the public procurement process.

According to NAN, the Head of Regulation and Database, BPP, Mr Aliyu Aliyu made the disclosure during a sensitization of procurement officers in Abuja.


Aliyu said the portal allows vendors of non-customized goods upload their prices so that the government at all level can compare and purchase goods and other materials at non-exorbitant prices.


The web-based portal will aid the government publish accurate procurement records and also monitor if Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) purchased goods like office materials at excessive prices.


Aliyu further stated that the portal, which was achieved with the use of Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), was not only for the Federal Government but also some state governments that have indicated interest in the portal.


He noted that price checker will be used with to monitor and calculate the prices of items budgeted in the 2019 budget and against the price they are being purchased, as well as used for contract negotiations.
