President Muhammadu Buhari will on Saturday, 19th January inaugurate the recently completed Baro Port, in Niger state which cost the Federal Government the sum of N6 billion. The General Manager (GM) in charge of corporate Affairs National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Mr, Tayo Fadile disclosed this in Lokoja on Thursday. (NAN)
Fadile revealed the port was constructed by CGCC Global Project Nig Ltd. He added the port is built-in with a Mobile Harbour Crane, Transit hut and an administrative building.
According to the GM, “It is also equipped with facilities such as water hydrant system, water treatment plant, reach stacker, 100KVA power generating set and three forklifts of various tonnages, among others.
Meanwhile, “Baro Port is one of the ports located by river Niger being built by the Federal Government to actualize the dredging of the Lower River Niger project.
Subsequently, the port is expected to create a minimum of 2,000 direct jobs and thousands of indirect jobs.
The GM further stated the port will help keep off the road some heavy duty trucks and trailers which were causing gridlock on our highways, impliedly extending the life span of our roads.
NIWA had already commenced upgrading road network linking to the port.
