Following the unabated fuel scarcity that has persisted in the country since the beginning of this year, a lecturer at the Department of Political Science study, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Professor Yakubu Abdullahi has revealed that if the menace is capable of spelling doom to the country electoral period. Abdullahi disclosed this at his residence in Zaria when some group of journalists paid him a courtesy visit in his residence, saying the lack of adequate supply of energy is already making some Nigeria lose hope in government.
He said the scarcity has cut across all categories of Nigerians not to talk of the insecurity that the populace have to deal with.
He laments that “You want to meet someone but the means of transportation is no longer there.
“Your relative is sick at midnight and needed to be taken to hospital, no fuel inside the car. You want to go to work in time, close early, and get home in time, no fuel,” he added.
Yakubu explained, “During the election, the electoral officials and voters would need mobility, but it would be difficult. How do you think the such election will be credible?”
Meanwhile, he called on the federal government to urgently correct its past mistakes to regain the confidence of the Nigerian populace, saying that unless there is a positive response from the government; electorates may develop voter apathy towards the electoral process.
