Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa state has stepped into the rift that is threatening to pitch the former militant leaders against each other over the pipeline contract awarded by the Buhari government to High Chief, government Ekpemupolo, AKA Tompolo last month. The Governor who was not happy with the rift convene a meeting amongst the trio and the leaders of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) together with other stallholders of the Niger Delta to ensure that the face-off does not result in a clash that will cost the federal government its facilities in the region.

The meeting was held over the weekend at the Bayelsa state Government house in Yenagoa.

The former warlords, King Ateke Tom, Dokubo Asari, and Tompolo all had their representatives at the meeting.

Contained in a communiqué issued shortly after the meeting, it was learned that the government constituted a five-man committee to serve as the mediating team between the trio and their supporters with terms and references that the pipeline surveillance is handled amicably.

The communiqué also called on the Nigerian government to fast-track the actualization of the establishment of modular refineries in the country to stop the subsidy regime that is threatening the Nigerian budget, and also put a halt to illegal refineries that are continually polluting the region.
