The Kaduna State High Court sitting in Kaduna has today Wednesday, set free the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife. During the eight hour ruling, Justice Gideon Kurada upheld the no-case submission filed by Zakzaky and his wife. The Kaduna State Government had in the last five years levelled a case of culpable homicide, unlawful assembly and disruption of public peace against the Shiite leader. Justice Gideon in his ruling held that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against the defendant.

El-Zakzaky and his wife Zeenat have in the last four years standing a trial on eight count charges levelled by the Kaduna state government on them. The Shiite leader arrived at court premises under the escort of Nigerian correctional Service officials.

The lead counsel, Femi Falana (SAN) had on July 1st argued that all the witnesses paraded by the prosecution party have failed to present a nexus between the alleged crime and his client.

Falana, therefore, prayed the court to rule in favour of his client and dismiss the charges against him, saying as there are no criminal charges established against him by the Kaduna state government.
